Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) said the proposed COVID-19 bill is not a stimulus package, but rather a way to boost the economy and keep businesses afloat.

In an interview Sunday, the Louisiana senator emphasized that the purpose of the bill is to reinvigorate the economy. Cassidy is one of the 10 senators who is drafting the bill.

According to reports, he hopes it will pass the criteria required by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and President Trump.

“The goal is to get the economy and the American people over the next hump,” Cassidy said. Do you want to keep people employed? Or, do you want to send them a stimulus check? We’re keeping people employed. That’s probably the better way, long term, to handle the economy.”

The deal is worth more than $900 billion dollars.
