Law enforcement officers in Florida arrested a father and his girlfriend following the car crash death of his two sons.

Julia Ann Drudy turned herself in Friday after the Cape Coral Police Department arrested her boyfriend, Kenneth Wayne Lawson.

Lawson was charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter after reportedly crashing his car into a canal the day before Thanksgiving, which resulted in the death of his 10-year-old and 7-year-old sons.

Drudy was also in the car and was charged with permitting an unauthorized operator to drive. The police department said they plan to do a thorough investigation of the case.

“These major cases are complex and I realize sometimes this can be frustrating as we wait for an arrest, but we sacrifice a quick arrest for a thorough investigation,” Interim Cape Coral Police Chief Anthony Sizemore said. “One in which involves our partners at the state attorney’s office so that we present an air-tight case. A case that leads to a successful prosecution in criminal court. That is true justice for our victims.”

Sizemore commended his team at Cape Coral Police Department for working tirelessly to resolve the tragic case.
